2016 Global Social Economy Forum

This September, participants working in and around local government and social economy will gather in Montreal for the 2016 Global Social Economy Forum (GSEF2016). The forum, which is organised by the City of Montreal and the Chantier de l’économie sociale, seeks to spur "collaboration between local governments and the social and solidarity economy actors for the development of cities." It will run from 7 to 9 September in Montreal.

GSEF2016 is open to participants from non-governmental organisations, academia, local government, the private sector, civil society and more. The forum will provide these stakeholders with the chance to share best practices for working with local governments to build sustainable cities. From the website:

Across the world, the social and solidarity economy (SSE) generates important economic, social, cultural, and environmental impact, and, more importantly, social innovations that help address the challenges of city administrations and their communities. Whether it is to meet essential needs such as housing and food security, ensure an adequate quality of life to residents through local services, cultural activities, and other recreational services, or contribute to social cohesion, SSE initiatives create decent employment and support the development of more equitable and sustainable cities.

The conference is the third edition of the Global Social Economy Forum, which was first held in Seoul, Korea, in 2013.
