Land, Water, and People

Land, water, and people. A fundamental, universal relationship, yet one that today has become so complex that we find ourselves ill-equipped to understand all of its interconnections and to plan a sustainable future. 

Land, water, and people is a new publication from the IHDP Summary for Decision-Makers (SDM) series. The report examines conclusions of the Global Land Project (GLP) and the Global Water System Project (GWSP) on the issue of floods and droughts, and offers key findings and recommendations to decision-makers working on crucial environmental and development policy challenges for drought- and flood-affected areas.

The Global Land Project (GLP), established in 2006, aims at improving understanding and modelling of the effects of human actions on natural processes of the terrestrial biosphere. The Global Water System Project (GWSP) was launched in 2004 to foster understanding of how human actions are changing the global water system, and what environmental and socio-economic feedbacks arise from the anthropogenic changes in that system.
