Future Earth is a global community of world-class researchers, projects and institutes brought together around an international research agenda focusing on sustainability science.Key documents
20+ global research projects provide our intellectual base. These projects have been established in the last decades under the auspices of previous global environmental change programmes: DIVERSITAS, the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme (IGBP), the International Human Dimensions Programme on Global Environmental Change (IHDP). These projects manage international research campaigns, databases and monitoring arrays. They produce world-class and societally-relevant research and mobilise capacity and communities through international open science conferences, regular workshops and early-career scientists events.
8+ Knowledge-Action Networks catalyse new research and partnerships around the key challenges to sustainability identified by Future Earth. These networks are a key mechanism that Future Earth employs to generate solutions-focused and societally-relevant research.
9 Fast-Track Initiatives and Cluster Activities encourage collaboration across disciplinary backgrounds on cutting edge research and engagement short-term projects. Launched in 2014, these initiatives have begun to wrap up their initial activities.
3 Program for Early-stage Grants Advancing Sustainability Science funding opportunities will spark research projects that cross borders and the natural and social sciences to develop creative solutions to urgent sustainability issues. This grants programme was launched in 2017 and will award grants in three phases to 2019.
