Future Earth will hold its second Summit in Bonn on August 27-29, 2018. The Summit, hosted by the German Future Earth Committee in cooperation with UNU and DFG, will convene the Global Research Projects (GRPs), Knowledge-Action Networks (KANs) and the Secretariat, with the participation of the Advisory Committee’s Co-Chairs. The Summit will be followed on August 30th by a meeting of the international offices of the Global Research Projects (IPO Day) at the UN building, Langer Eugen, Bonn.
The Summit will open with a dinner on August 27th (18:00-21:00) at the Institut de France of Bonn. This dinner will be an opportunity for setting the scene, with introductory talks by Johan Rockström and Leena Srivastava, Future Earth Advisory Committee Co-Chairs, and Amy Luers, Executive Director of the Future Earth Secretariat.
On August 28-29, the Summit will be held at the Wissenschaftszentrum. Through plenary and breakout group discussions, the Summit will advance the identification and definition of major Global Systemic Challenges. These challenges are cross-cutting focus areas where Future Earth has a vital role to play through advancing a systems-based approach to the SDGs and where GRPs and KANs can bring their expertise and experience in co-design, regional approaches and policy-oriented research. In addition, the Summit will provide the Future Earth community with the opportunity to discuss how our working relationships should be strengthened in order to collectively deliver on our main goals, including major outputs such as the annual science report and the Earth Targets initiative.
