Young Academics Award of the Alpine Convention

In order to promote sustainable development in the Alps, research and innovation are key elements. Particularly young academics play a crucial role in shaping the future of the Alps. The aim of the Young Academics Award is to recognize this key role by awarding outstanding master theses carried out on relevant alpine topics.

The topic of green economy is especially relevant for the Alps, since they have a high potential for green economy initiatives and also present sensitive ecosystems that need to be protected.

The Alpine Convention welcomes master theses on the issue of green economy in the Alps and especially on the following  related topics:

  • Energy efficient and low carbon economy
  • Resource efficient economy (including waste management)
  • Ecosystem services and natural capital-based economy
  • Economy supporting quality of life and wellbeing

The submitted master theses have to be completed in the years 2014, 2015 or 2016.

Three main prizes in the range of 500-1000 Euro will be awarded, alongside four additional “Infopoint prizes” of 500 Euro each, for geographically dedicated works. The awards will be given in the presence of the German Minister of the Environment, Ms. Barbara Hendricks.

The deadline for submissions is 30 April 2016.
