Call for abstracts: 1.5 degrees conference

Organisers of an international conference called "1.5 degrees: meeting the challenges of the Paris Agreement" have issued a call for abstracts for oral and poster presentations. The conference will run from September 20 to 22 at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom.

Proposals are welcome on a variety of topics addressing the consequences and difficulties of limiting warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial temperatures — a target set by nations in December's Paris Agreement. Conference themes include "Sensitivities of Earth systems and biodiversity," "Human Impacts of 1.5 degrees" and "Financing 1.5 degrees."

Interested researchers can send in their abstracts by the end of May. For more information on how to submit a proposal, see the announcement.

The 1.5 degrees conference is organised by Oxford's Environmental Change Institute and the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research in Norwich, UK. It will tackle how nations can meet this ambitious warming target and what an increase in temperatures of this magnitude will mean for the globe. The conference's discussions will also be incorporated into a special report that the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) plans to release in 2018 about the 1.5°C goal. The event is open to researchers, policy-makers, business leaders and members of civil society.  The organisers write:

The conference will review the arguments behind the 1.5 degrees goal and will seek to understand how the goal is to be interpreted. It will explore the options for how a 1.5 degrees target could be achieved and evaluate the possible consequences of the goal from a wide range of perspectives.
