Post-doc opening in atmospheric physics in Brazil

The Atmospheric Physics Laboratory of the Institute of Physics of the University of São Paulo has issued the following announcement:

The Atmospheric Physics Laboratory of the Institute of Physics of the University of São Paulo is seeking a Postdoc to work on air pollution research. The laboratory has more than 25 years of experience on atmospheric research in Amazonia. The activities of the researcher are part the FAPESP Thematic Project: GoAmazon: Interaction of the urban plume of Manaus with biogenic emissions of the Amazonian forest.

The research project has among its aims the data analysis of the extensive characterization of the urban plume of Manaus city and its interactions with the surrounding forest environment. Also, measurements shall be carried out in pristine sites in Central Amazonia, including TT34 and ATTO. The focus is on the study of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and its production of Secondary Organic Aerosol (SOA).

The candidate should have a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Sciences, Physics or Chemistry. It is desirable to have experience with in-situ measurements of trace gases and aerosol. Skills on MatLab and Igor Pro programming is also desirable. The Postdoc will be responsible for operation and data analysis of a PTR-MS and Aerodyne AMS/ACSM instruments.

The contract is for 1 year, with possibility of renewal upon performance for 3 more years, with an income of a FAPESP Post-Doc scholarship at the value of R$ 6.819,30 monthly, and a travel grant equivalent to 15% of the annual value of the scholarship.
