Call for proposals: Science, Technology and Innovation funding in BRICS countries

The BRICS Scientific, Technological and Innovation (STI) Framework Programme has announced a new call for research proposals "on priority areas which can best be addressed by a multinational approach." The effort is supported by funding organisations in the BRICS nations (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa). The proposals must include collaborators from at least three of these countries.

Funded research projects will begin in January 2017 and will last for three years, with support determined on a country-by-country basis. The funding call is open to a wide range of scientific research in multiple thematic areas, several of which are relevant to global sustainability. They are:

  • Prevention and monitoring of natural disasters
  • Water resources and pollution treatment
  • Geospatial technology and its applications
  • New and renewable energy, and energy efficiency
  • Ocean and polar science and technology

The deadline for submitting proposals is 25 August. Interested researchers must send in an application form online.
