Job opening: Executive Director of TWAS
UNESCO is seeking a new Executive Director for The World Academy of Sciences for the advancement of science in developing countries (TWAS). The position, which is for a three-year contract and is based in Trieste, Italy, will provide “intellectual, strategic and operational leadership in the development, management, planning and execution of TWAS international scientific cooperation programmes.” The deadline for applications is 12 October.
Applicants for this position must have a minimum of a Master’s or equivalent degree and 15 years of experience in scientific research and administration. UNESCO is also seeking candidates who have a strong knowledge of the state and needs of scientific research in the developing world. From the announcement:
The main objectives of the Academy are to: (i) recognize, support and promote excellence in scientific research in the South; (ii) provide promising scientists in the South with the research facilities necessary for the advancement of their work; (iii) facilitate contacts between individual scientists and institutions in the South; (iv) encourage North-South and South-South cooperation between individuals and centres of scholarship; and (v) promote scientific research on major challenges faced by developing countries.
