Join a webinar exploring social-ecological transformations and seeds of a good Anthropocene
The webinar will air on 19 October at 10:00 CEST and again at 17:00 CEST. You can register here.
The scale, rate and intensity of humans’ environmental impact has engendered broad discussion about how to find plausible pathways of development that hold the most promise for fostering a better future in the Anthropocene. The Bright Spots: Seeds of a Good Anthropocene project presents a novel approach to thinking about the future that builds on experiences drawn from a diversity of practices, worldviews, values and regions that could accelerate the adoption of pathways to transformative change.
The Bright Spots project is grounded in an emerging understanding of how change occurs in complex adaptive social-ecological systems. Seeds of a good Anthropocene collected by the project will be assessed for their contribution to the fundamental redirection of people-planet relationships that are increasingly understood as necessary in light of the challenges of the Anthropocene. Such redirections will involve large-scale changes in order to strengthen Earth’s life support systems in a safe and just manner. Research in this field includes an emphasis on transformation patterns and capacity, innovation and scaling and agency and opportunity contexts.
During the webinar, Per Olsson and Albert Norström will briefly present the project and current frontiers in social-ecological transformation research and then open for discussion.
This webinar is part of a series of activities by Future Earth´s Transformations Knowledge-Action Network, which aims to mobilize a community of researchers and practitioners interested in exploring social transformations to sustainability. You can watch an earlier webinar in this series here.
This webinar is open to all, including scientists, communicators, and stakeholders in the fields of sustainability and global change.
