DEADLINE EXTENDED: Proposals for European Space Agency and Future Earth collaborations

The European Space Agency (ESA) and Future Earth are sending out a call for research proposals with the goal of strengthening the partnership between the two organisations. The proposals will fund efforts to promote the use of ESA’s Earth observation data by researchers in the Future Earth network. The call is open to participants in Future Earth’s global research projects, research initiatives and Knowledge-Action Networks.

The call will support joint ESA-Future Earth activities: They include the “exploitation of the Essential Climate Variable datasets,” such as satellite and sensor observations of global carbon dioxide, ozone and ice sheets. Also being funded are projects around “support for international conventions or agreements” and the ESA’s “Thematic Exploitation Platforms,” or efforts to make data more open and accessible.

The space agency will also provide funding for research from the Future Earth network to participate in several ESA events. These funds will be available throughout the year.
