Draft report on African pollinators open for comment

The Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), a leading body for international biodiversity policy, has announced that it is accepting peer review on a draft regional report for Africa on pollination. The report “highlights the state of knowledge of animal pollination in the Africa region as a regulating service that underpins food production, and contribution to gene flow, biodiversity-related plant-pollinator interactions and the restoration of ecosystems in Africa.”

This effort follows a wide-ranging assessment of the state of global pollinators that the scientific body the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) released in February 2016 at its fourth session in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The new report, titled “Regional Report for Africa on Pollinators and Pollination and Food Production,” was produced by CBD in collaboration with IPBES and  the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.

The CBD will release the final report at the Thirteenth Conference of the Parties (COP13) of the Convention on Biological Diversity, an international body that shapes biodiversity and ecosystem services policy. Future Earth will participate in multiple activities around this event, which will run from 2 to 17 December in Cancún, Mexico.

The deadline for submitting peer review on the draft report on African pollinators is 13 November.
