Call for applications: Transdisciplinary research workshops

The Belmont Forum, START, Future Earth, and regional partners are looking for participants to join a series of workshops around building skills in transdisciplinary research. The workshops will be held at three locations in the United States in early- to mid-2017. They will focus on advancing principles of co-design and co-production in the natural, social and engineering sciences to address complex sustainability challenges.

The first workshop will take place in Tempe, Arizona, on 22 to 24 February and will be followed by the second event on 1 to 3 March in Boulder, Colorado. The project partners will release a second call for applications for the third workshop, which will run in spring 2017 in Baltimore, Maryland. The workshops are open only to participants from the United States.

Applications for the first two workshops are due 18 January 2017.

These workshops seek to help participants advance their skills in transdisciplinary research and increase their aptitude for developing research proposals with strong transdisciplinary elements. Transdisciplinary research is a cornerstone of the Belmont Forum’s multi-year Collaborative Research Actions (CRAs). They include a recently-launched call on urbanisation and the food-energy-water nexus.

Each workshop will organise learning activities around a regionally-relevant case study on the food-energy-water nexus. The workshops will be three-day events with approximately 30 participants per workshop. They are open to applicants from the research, policy, private sector and practitioner communities.
