Webinar on the Sustainable Development Goals and transformation

Future Earth is hosting a new webinar examining the role that transformation can play in meeting the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The webinar, the fifth in a series, will feature talks from leading researchers and practitioners in sustainable development and lively question and answer sessions. The discussion will focus, in particular, on the implications of transformation research for the 17th SDG – "Partnerships for the Goals" – the only goal that explicitly addresses how nations will meet these targets.

The webinar will run on 31 May at 10:00 a.m. EDT (16:00 CEST). It is supported by SDG Transformation Forum, the Future Earth Transformations Knowledge-Action Network and Geneva2030.

Speakers for the webinar include:

Rosemary Kalapurakal, Lead Advisor on the 2030 Agenda, UN Development Programme: Rosemary comes to her role with 20 years' experience working on development issues with the United Nations and civil society, in headquarters and field locations. She has taken a leadership role in addressing sustainable development issues, along with advocacy, communications and partnership development. Her expertise includes sustainable development, governance and social inclusion, and she is a passionate advocate of gender equality, human rights and disability rights.

Kumi Naidoo, Steward, Africans Rising; (former) Secretary-General, Civicus; (former) head of Greenpeace International; (former) Chair, Global Call to Action Against Poverty: Naidoo was involved in the processes of developing the SDGs, and has looked at them with a particular concern for transformation.

Per Olsson, Theme Leader Resilience Science for Transformations, Stockholm Resilience Centre: Olsson’s current research focuses on agency and system entrepreneurship, social-ecological innovations, sustainability transformations and how to reverse current trends of crossing critical thresholds and tipping points in the Earth system. He has developed the concept of T-labs (Transformation Labs), a new methodology for generating innovative approaches for re-wiring social-ecological systems.
