Call for abstracts: 2018 Utrecht Conference on Earth System Governance

The Earth System Governance Project (ESG) has announced a call for paper abstracts for its upcoming 2018 Utrecht Conference on Earth System Governance. This event, which follows up on the project’s 2017 conference in Lund, will run from 5 to 8 November in Utrecht, Netherlands. ESG, a global research project of Future Earth, is seeking applications for individual papers, full panels and innovative sessions.

The deadline for all abstracts is 19 March. ESG has also announced that it is accepting applications for a winter school that will run just before the conference. To learn more about the conference and how you can get involved, visit the official event website.

This year’s Earth Systems Governance conference marks an important landmark for the project. In 2018, it will adopt a new 10-year science plan and usher in new leadership. According to the conference website:

This conference will hence focus on harvesting the many findings of our community over the last decade, combined with a bold outlook to the future and the next scientific challenges for earth system governance research.

The project is seeking abstracts in six conference streams:

• Architectures of Earth System Governance
• Agency in Earth System Governance
• Accountability, Legitimacy and Democracy in the Anthropocene
• Allocation, Access and Equity in Earth System Governance
• Adaptiveness, Resilience, and the Transformation of Earth System Governance
• Theoretical and Methodological Foundations of Earth System Governance

The Winter School will run from 31 October to 4 November and will serve as an incubator for early career researchers working in Earth system governance. This participatory event will include lectures and dialogues led by senior researchers and “writeshops” in which participants can hone their own research ideas.
