Call for Representatives from Low and Middle Income Countries to Join the Future Earth Assembly

Future Earth, the world’s largest community of sustainability scientists, is making a bold shift to become a more inclusive, accessible, transparent, and transformative organization. As part of this transition, Future Earth is improving its governance structure to increase transparency and to better represent the global community of sustainability scientists. By the end of 2021, a new, simplified governance structure consisting of an Assembly and a Governing Council will be put in place.

Currently, only four of Future Earth’s 19 national structures are located in Lower and Middle Income Countries (LIC-MIC), and only a limited number of the Global Research Networks have International Program Offices in LIC-MIC, despite the fact that LIC-MIC constitute 142 of 195 countries in the world. This illustrates the urgent need for a greater representation of Global South constituencies within Future Earth.

Thus, Future Earth is looking for sustainability experts (whether already part of the Future Earth community or not yet) from LIC-MIC to be the voices of these countries in Future Earth’s Assembly and Governing Council, so as to contribute to the development of the Future Earth core agenda, strategies, activities, and structures.

If you are interested in joining the Future Earth Assembly as a sustainability expert from LIC-MIC, or if you would like to nominate someone else, please refer to this form. The top ten nominees will then be selected by a selection committee drawn from Future Earth community members from LIC-MIC.
