The Pathways Initiative launches the Pathways Forum webinar series

The Science-Based Pathways initiative is pleased to announce that the first Pathways Forum will take place on 23 September 2021 1-2:30pm CEST. The Pathways Forum is a series of bi-monthly webinars focusing on the practical implications of sustainability science and transdisciplinarity for research practices.

The Pathways Forum is one of the key activities of the The Pathways Initiative. It aims to serve as an ‘incubator for engagement’ to build understanding of systemic interactions, competing development agendas, and transformations in concrete contexts, by convening researchers from diverse disciplines who engage, or want to engage, with societal actors (e.g. civil society, governments, private sector) in processes of adaptive learning to design, implement, and evaluate pathways to sustainability. Through this webinar series, the Pathways Initiative aims to develop and support agenda-setting, synthesis and capacity building around pathways for sustainability.

The first Forum will be a self-reflection on three dimensions of sustainability research, each introduced by three esteemed speaker: (1) Oonsie Biggs (Stellenbosch University) will describe how pathways approaches can contribute to bridging the gap between global challenges and local initiatives; (2) Adrian Ely (University of Sussex) will share his experience from engaging in collaborative research in multicultural and multidisciplinary contexts; and (3) Flurina Schneider (Institute for Social-Ecological Research) will reflect on the way the normative underpinnings of sustainability research influence the way research is conducted and how it is valued.

These presentations will be followed by a collective discussion, where all participants will have a chance to contribute their own knowledge and experience to delve deeper into these key aspects of sustainability research.

We encourage anyone interested in sustainability science and transdisciplinary research to join us by registering here.
