Future Earth at COP16 in Colombia
The United Nations Biodiversity Conference, COP16, is underway in Cali, Colombia. This Sixteenth meeting of the Conferences of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) is the first Biodiversity COP since the adoption of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework at COP15 in December 2022 in Montreal, Canada. The framework lays out a set of 23 targets to halt and reverse biodiversity loss by 2030. Now comes time for governments to review the state of the implementation of the “Paris Agreement for nature.” According to the CBD, only 29 out of 196 countries have submitted updates to their national plans.
COP16 will continue developing the monitoring framework and also finalize and operationalize the multilateral mechanism on the fair and equitable sharing of benefits from the use of digital sequence information on genetic resources.
Members of Future Earth’s Secretariat and networks will have an onsite and online delegation. Below is who is on our delegation and where you can find us. This page will be updated throughout the conference.
