Future Earth Thailand connects researchers and stakeholders within the country to foster innovations and policies that address environmental issues and sustainable development.
Future Earth Thailand was initiated through a collaboration between the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA) and seven academic institutions, supported by both public and private sectors. The project that applies space and geoinformatics technologies in conjunction with artificial intelligence for agricultural management and addressing natural resource and environmental problems is part of an advanced technology development plan. This includes Earth Space Technology, which aims to apply these technologies for national development in geoinformatics and extend to the future space industry. The objective is to develop technologies and innovations crucial for development and to create future industries, including the space industry and defense sector.
Current activities
In 2024, the Future Earth Thailand Consortium was established to advance cutting-edge research in seeking solutions to the challenges faced by the country and to connect with the
international Future Earth Global research network. This year, the focus is on applying space technologies for the management of natural resources, the environment, and agriculture, with efforts concentrated on three main areas: 1) Environmental and Natural Resource Management, 2) Disaster Management, and 3) Agricultural Economic Enhancement.
In line with these plans, the Future Earth Thailand Consortium is committed to generating research related to natural resource and environmental issues at regional, provincial, or local levels. This involves applying or extending innovations or geoinformatics and Earth Space Technology to find solutions for environmental and natural resource challenges, encompassing water bodies, land, and the atmosphere, and addressing issues across various regions of the country.
