Jana Sillmann
Advisory Board, Future Earth Risk KAN
Dr. Jana Sillmann is full professor for climate extremes co-leading the Research Unit for Sustainability and Climate Risks at the University of Hamburg, Germany and she is group leader for Climate and Nature Risk at the Center for International Climate Research in Oslo, Norway. As leading expert in the field of cascading impacts and systemic risk in the context of climate change, her research focuses on understanding and modelling the impacts of climate extremes in and across different sectors (e.g. finance, health, agriculture, energy) and sustainable transformation to build societal resilience. This includes improving economic models to better represent economic consequences of climate extremes and associated risks. She develops and applies interdisciplinary approaches, involving natural and social sciences, for a better integration of climate and impact modelling and for risk assessment to support adaptation and mitigation decision-making. She has co-chaired the Risk Knowledge-Action Network—where I also serve as the FE Assembly representative—and have held leadership roles in major international research networks, including the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) and the Integrated Research on Disaster Risk (IRDR). I was Lead Author for IPCC AR6 (WGI) and currently serve as a Review Editor for IPCC AR7 (WGII).
