Kaela Slavik

Science Officer

Kaela is passionate about bridging the gap between science and policy.  At Future Earth, she coordinates and supports the Water-Energy-Food Nexus Knowledge-Action Network and is the liaison to IPCC and UNFCCC. She has previously worked in Laos on Water-Energy-Food Nexus challenges in a transboundary basin of the Mekong River with the International Water Management Institute. She also worked in Australia, advocating for the scientific basis for marine protected areas to policy-makers for the Ocean Science Council of Australia.  Kaela wrote her Master’s thesis in collaboration with the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht on the impact of offshore windfarms on pelagic primary production. Kaela has a BSc in Environmental Science and Marine Science from the University of Western Australia, for which she spent one year abroad at McGill University, Canada, and an Erasmus Mundus Master of Environmental Science, Policy and Management (MESPOM).
