Steven Hartman
Steven Hartman is Professor of English Literature at Mid Sweden University, where he leads the interdisciplinary EcoHumanities Hub. He is also a founding member and present chair of the Nordic Network for Interdisciplinary Environmental Studies (NIES). Hartman has wide-ranging interests. As a scholar and writer he is what used to be called a 'person of letters' in the tradition of the public intellectual. His career has followed a trajectory that would have been very hard to predict when he began his studies of literature, writing and criticism two to three decades ago. As an academic he remains firmly grounded in these disciplines, but in recent years he has also become engaged in research involving social and environmental sciences, working in the field of interdisciplinary environmental humanities on questions concerning global environmental change.
