Mobilizing Climate Science for Cities: Convening the Cities and Climate Change IPCC Conference in 2018

Future Earth will be participating at an event on 10 November in Marrakech, Morocco, to raise awareness about the upcoming “International Scientific Conference on Cities and Climate Change.” The event is being held in conjunction with the 22nd session of the Conference of the Parties (COP22) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), which runs from 7 to 18 November.

At the event, Future Earth and its partners will announce a call for expressions of interests for cities around the world to host the upcoming climate change and cities conference. It is co-sponsored by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and will be held in 2018. The event in Marrakech will also serve to mobilise “the relevant stakeholders, including scientific researchers, national and city governments, local urban communities and international organization, on scientific research for cities and climate change.”

The event will run from 15:00 to 16:00 (UTC) at the “Oasis” venue in the Blue Zone at COP22.

The cities and climate change conference is being organised by an international consortium that includes the Cities Alliance, C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group, ICLEI‐Local Governments for Sustainability, Future Earth, Sustainable Development Solutions Network  (SDSN), United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), UN‐Habitat, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP).
