MOOC: Climate change in Latin America
Leading Latin American scientists will launch a new massive open online course (MOOC) at a high-profile event in Marrakesh, Morocco. The course will cover the impacts of climate change, with a particular focus on Latin America. It will debut 7 November at the 22nd Conference of the Parties (COP22) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) — a prominent body for deciding on international policy around climate change.
This free course will be taught by 21 Latin American scientists and is open to anyone with an internet connection. All lessons will be in Spanish. According to the announcement, the course:
aims to provide users with a good understanding of current climate change science as well as analytical abilities in the following areas: impact of climate change on biodiversity and ecosystem services, impact of environmental global changes, international mechanisms to cope with impacts on biodiversity and the economics of climate change
The MOOC is brought to you by the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI), which hosts the Future Earth Regional Centre for Latin American and the Caribbean. It is organised in collaboration with the Secretariat to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the UN Secretariat of the UNFCCC and was co-funded by the Development Bank for Latin America (CAF).
For more information on this course or to participate online, see the official website here (in Spanish).
