Future Earth Community Members Contribute to IPCC’s Seventh Assessment Report

Future Earth is proud to celebrate the selection of numerous scientists from across its global networks as authors for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s Seventh Assessment Report (AR7). This milestone highlights the depth and breadth of scientific expertise within our community and the vital role it plays in shaping global climate policy and action.

Of the 27 researchers nominated by Future Earth, five have been selected to contribute as Lead Authors, Review Editors, or Chapter Authors of AR7. Beyond this, many other researchers involved in Future Earth initiatives, including members of the Earth Commission, the Pathways Initiative, and other affiliated networks, have also been named to AR7 author teams.

These scientists will help develop the IPCC’s most comprehensive climate assessment to date, contributing to Working Groups I, II, and III, as well as the Special Report on Cities. Their roles span lead authorship, coordination, and critical chapter review, covering a wide array of issues from climate science to sustainable development and mitigation.

“I am deeply honored to serve as a Lead Author for IPCC AR7, and I thank Future Earth for championing diverse voices in this vital process,” said Prof. Emmanuel Nzunda. “This appointment is not only a personal recognition but also a call to strengthen science-policy connections that empower humanity to mitigate climate change with equity, ambition, and urgency.”

It also underscores the importance of inclusive, network-based approaches to tackling the climate crisis.

The IPCC’s AR7 is expected to be released in stages between 2027 and 2029 and will serve as a crucial scientific foundation for future climate action under the Paris Agreement and beyond.

Future Earth congratulates all selected authors and looks forward to supporting their contributions to this landmark assessment.
