Monsoon Asia Integrated Research for Sustainability—Future Earth (MAIRS-FE) was initiated by Asian scientists as a regional consortium for the integrated study on cross-cutting global change issues related to the unique Asian monsoon climate and topography and developed links across the diverse cultures and societies. MAIRS has brought together the collaborative efforts of scientists in the past two decades and became one of the Global Research Networks of Future Earth in 2017.

Overall scientific guidance on all aspects of MAIRS-FE activities is provided by the Scientific Steering Committee (SSC). The SSC functions as the decision-making body for MAIRS-FE, and sets the scientific research priorities and oversees the implementation of the project. The SSC is supported by the International Project Office (IPO) at Peking University and Regional Project Office (RPO) at the Indian Institute for Science Bangalore.

The SSC is composed of 11~17 mid-career and senior scientists from a broad spectrum of disciplines and nationalities. Members are appointed for a 2-3 years term with renewable opportunity. The SSC develops, prioritizes, and executes agreed on activities and objectives of the MAIRS-FE. The SSC duties include: Develop research content, identify opportunities, Support research and action, represent the MAIRS-FE at events such as conferences, workshops, or others. In addition, the SSC will be responsible for representing the MAIRS within Future Earth wide events, reporting on the election processes, reporting on the planned and ongoing activities, and managing the contribution of the MAIRS community to Future Earth wide convenings.

MAIRS-FE welcomes nominations to its SSC for a term beginning on January 1st 2024. Please find below the minimum qualifications required and instructions on how to apply (in case of self-nomination) or to nominate.

The deadline for applications is 30 September, 17:00 Beijing time. Applicants will be informed of the outcome by 31 October 2023.

Minimum qualifications and experience required to apply:

• Extensive research experience in sustainability areas of monsoon Asia, prioritizing water-energy-food nexus, air-climate-health nexus and regional climate observation, modeling & application etc.
• Active in the MAIRS relevant field of research and established reputation;
• Experience and willingness to work internationally and collaboratively across sectors, time zones, and cultures
• Experienced and supportive of translating transdisciplinary scientific knowledge and work into action
• Interest, availability, and motivation to serve (e.g. dedicating time for discussions; participating in online meetings, occasionally a workshop, and conferences)
• Willing and able to contribute to other activities of Future Earth from the perspective of the MAIRS

Both self-nominations and nominations by a third party are accepted. If you are nominating someone else, please ensure you have obtained the person’s agreement prior to submission of the nomination.

Nominations should include a bio or short CV and provide basic information, indicate areas of specific interest, ideas of engagement in MAIRS through filing out the attached form.
