Lisa Graumlich

Dean, College of the Environment, University of Washington

Dr. Graumlich is the Mary Laird Wood Professor and the Dean of the College of the Environment. Her primary research interests are in paleoecology, and the ways that ecosystems and human societies adapt to climate change, with a special focus on severe and persistent drought. She pioneered the use of tree-ring data to understand long-term trends in climate, focusing on the mountains of western North America. She has an interdisciplinary focus and a career-long interest in global climate change, especially with regard to how to best manage natural and human resources in an uncertain future, and she speaks frequently on climate change impacts and adaptation. She was named an Aldo Leopold Leadership Fellow in 1999 and was elected as Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) in 2004. In 2017, she was elected to the American Geophysical Union’s Board of Directors.
