Masaru Yarime

 Masaru YARIME is Associate Professor in the School of Energy and Environment at the City University of Hong Kong. He also has appointments as Honorary Reader at the Department of Science, Technology, Engineering and Public Policy in University College London, Visiting Associate Professor at the Graduate School of Public Policy in the University of Tokyo, and Visiting Scholar at the Japan International Cooperation Agency Research Institute. He received B.Eng. and M.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Tokyo and the California Institute of Technology respectively and Ph.D. in Economics and Policy Studies of Technological Change from Maastricht University in the Netherlands. His previous positions include Senior Research Fellow in the National Institute of Science and Technology Policy of the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology and Project Associate Professor of Science, Technology, and Innovation Governance in the Graduate School of Public Policy of the University of Tokyo. His research interests focus on science, technology, and innovation policy, management, and governance for energy, environment, and sustainability, particularly in the context of smart cities. He contributes to numerous international initiatives, including the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative on Environmental Risk Integration in Sovereign Credit Analysis, Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Working Group III Fifth Assessment Report, and the Expert Group on Catalogue of Policy Support Tools and Methodologies of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services. Currently he is serving on the editorial board of international journals, including Sustainability Science, Environmental Innovation and Societal Transitions, Journal of Corporate Citizenship, and Frontiers in Energy Research - Energy Systems and Policy.
