Vacancy: Intern – USA Hub (Paid) – Position Filled

Term: Start immediately until 12 July 2024
Job Type: ~20 hours/week

The Future Earth US Hub is seeking an intern to assist with the organization of the Sustainability Research and Innovation Congress (SRI) held in Finland in collaboration with the Sustainability Science Days from 10-14 June 2024. The intern will play a key role in the preparation of the world’s largest annual event dedicated to sustainability research and innovation and will work with an international team on various tasks from program development to event logistics. This is a great opportunity to get an insider view of a rapidly growing global event and drive change for a more sustainable planet.

This position will report to the Network Manager of the Future Earth USA Global Hub.

Applicants must be eligible to work in the USA. This is a remote position based in the USA and is paid (USD25/hour).

The application deadline is 9 February 2024.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the Congress program development, including scheduling and updating sessions
  • Manage email correspondence with Congress participants
  • Support the SRI Team in outreach and engagement
  • Attend regular virtual team meetings with the SRI Team
  • Assist with post-Congress work, including data analysis
  • Update the Future Earth Member Portal, particularly regarding the Congress
  • Other duties as assigned (to be decided upon consultation if other duties arise)

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in sustainability science or a related field
  • Experience in event planning and organization
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple time-sensitive tasks
  • Cultural sensitivity and proven success in an international team-oriented environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and willingness to work across different time zones
  • A genuine interest in sustainability & climate research
  • Proficiency in English
  • Experience with data analysis and database management (preferred)

About the Sustainability Research and Innovation Congress:

The Sustainability Research and Innovation (SRI) Congress, co-convened by Future Earth and the Belmont Forum with local co-organizers, has been offering an inclusive and inspiring global platform to explore state-of-the-art solutions and innovations and to build a coalition of the willing to accelerate sustainability transformations.

Since 2021, SRI has been held in Oceania, Africa, and Latin America creating an inclusive, round-the-clock interactive program together with Satellite events in Asia and Africa. SRI2024 is heading to Europe and will take place in Helsinki and Espoo in Finland from 10-14 June 2024 in collaboration with Sustainability Science Days (SSD), the largest sustainability science conference in Finland. Hosted by Finland’s two largest universities, the University of Helsinki and Aalto University, SRI/SSD2024 will bring together over 2000 sustainability leaders from around the world, both online and in-person.
